My artwork being submitted is of personal significance. I have failed over and over again in my life, and that is why I will succeed. My inspiration for this artwork is because I feel like my mind is institutionalized from being incarcerated as a youth. It is hard but I must set myself apart from that stigma and face the challenges to have growth to make my mind free and not locked up. I feel afraid that I will not be able to change that. I feel depressed and frustrated that I am in this situation. I have hope that I will be a successful productive citizen and to be able to speak to other youth before they will be institutionalized. If I had to give a description of my artwork it would be, “A young mind trying to figure out how to not have an institutionalized mind, I have to break free.”

Mi obra de arte presentada tiene un significado personal. He fallado una y otra vez en mi vida y por eso voy a tener éxito. Mi inspiración para esta obra es porque siento que mi mente está institucionalizada por haber estado encarcelado de joven. Es difícil, pero debo separarme de ese estigma y enfrentar los desafíos para tener crecimiento y hacer que mi mente sea libre y no esté encerrada. Tengo miedo de no poder cambiar eso. Me siento deprimido y frustrado de estar en esta situación. Tengo esperanza de ser un ciudadano productivo y exitoso y poder hablar con otros jóvenes antes de que sean institucionalizados. Si tuviera que dar una descripción de mi obra, sería: “Una mente joven tratando de descubrir cómo no tener una mente institucionalizada, tengo que liberarme”.
