In Honduras, we celebrated Mother’s Day

Over the past several weeks, thanks to the generosity of our Restore the Circle supporters, families traveled to Sagrado Corazón de María, CPI El Carmen, CPI Jalteva, and Nuevo Jalteva to spend precious time with the young people they love.

Mothers and youth spent the day together, playing games, sharing meals, reading cards, and simply being present with one another. Young people prepared poems and songs. Mothers laughed, cried, and held children they rarely have the chance to see.

A Journey of Determination and Love

For many families, maintaining contact with a child in detention requires extraordinary effort.

Depending on where they live, families may travel 4, 6, 8, or even 10 hours to reach a facility. Some leave before sunrise. Others spend the night away from home.

A mother participating in a family reunification activity in Honduras

One mother traveled from Nicaragua to see her son for the first time in more than a year.

The journey was not easy. She faced transportation and logistical challenges along the way, but she refused to give up. Being reunited with her son mattered more than any obstacle.

While she traveled, her son waited anxiously. Staff shared that he was excited, nervous, and counting the moments until he could finally see his mother again after so much time apart.

They also received Restore the Circle cards, written by supporters like you.

Simple messages. Words of encouragement. Reminders that someone cared.

Their words say it best:

“I didn’t know this day would be so beautiful.”
“My heart is full of joy.”
“Thank you for remembering mothers.”
“That message on the card made me cry.”

Family connection reduces isolation, strengthens support systems, improves reintegration outcomes, and reminds young people that there is a community waiting for them.

This Mother’s Day, dozens of families shared moments of joy, healing, and belonging.

Thank you for being part of a community that believes family connection matters.

Thank you for restoring the circle.
